VAXXED: From Cover-Up to Catastrophe censored doc pulled by the Tribeca Film Festival shocking autism study

HERE IS THE TRAILER FROM Vaxxed: From Cover-Up to Catastrophe.  THAT WAS SCHEDULED to play the TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL that exposes the role of coverup at the CDC over data that purports autism is related to vaccine use in children. A whistleblower at the CDC spoke with director Andrew Wakefield and broke silence. A US Congressman was convinced the truth was being told .. that is at the core of the documentary at . All hell broke loose when it became public that it had been programed. Finally Robert De Niro had a press conference and defended the selection stating "autism was an issue very personal to his family." 24 hours later the film was pulled. The Sloan Foundation a major supporter of the TFF has apparently fiercely objected on scientific terms behind the scene and demanded it be pulled leaving TFF official looking like they have backed away from freedom of expression and the role of a Film Festival to provoke through creative work difficult issues and discussion, When originally scheduled, the film showing was to have been followed directly by a panel discussion. Apparently this did not satisfy the Sloan Foundation who continued to demand it be pulled. It was .. over the next few days more, as they say , will be revealed . Now of course the demand to see it far exceeds the expectations when programed. It is very hard tp get anyone to speak on thr record at this stage.. tbe

click on this link http://www.vaxxedthemovie.com/ it has information on the film. It contains the actual, original TFF posting and trailer l that has been withdrawn,

Here is the complete ABC News interview with the producer Del Bigtree

to discuss the impacts of the Flint water crisis

What:    As a lead up to Sunday’s live broadcasted #JUSTICEFORFLINT event, Blackout for Human Rights will join with the National Black Programming Consortium to host a live online chat about the issues impacting the City of Flint, Michigan. Moderated by Van Jones, the chat will feature members of Blackout and local leaders and community members based in Flint.

When:                  Saturday, February 27 at 3:00 p.m. EST

Who:     Filmmaker and Blackout for Human Rights Founding Member Ryan Coogler; filmmaker and activist Mark Ruffalo, political activist, author and commentator Van Jones, Campaign for Black Male Achievement VP for Communications Rashid Shabazz, PICO National Network “Live Free” Campaign National Director Michael McBride, Flint Organizer and Michigan Faith in Action Executive Director Rick Carter, Justice League NYC activist Carmen Perez, and other local and national leaders.

Why:     Nearly 100,000 residents of Flint have been consuming water contaminated with dangerous levels of lead. The long-term consequences for public health, community infrastructure and finances are immeasurable. As the United Nations recognizes, "The human right to water is indispensable for leading a life in human dignity. It is a prerequisite for the realization of other human rights." The events in Flint -- whose residents are disproportionately poor and of color, and who have been battling this issue for nearly two years -- call for mobilization and action to address this state-sponsored human rights violation.

Using the power of the arts to shed light on the situation in Flint, and to raise donations to help remedy the crisis, #JUSTICEFORFLINT will feature live musical performances with today's leading artists. The event will also include presentations and open dialogue with the local community, the goal being to help build and support the durable infrastructure needed to assist the citizens of Flint. REVOLT TV serves as principal media sponsor for the event, and will stream the program live on their website.

MAD MAX Fury Road: What is there not to love?

"MAD MAX Fury Road: What is there not to love? A one armed female hero with no gender expression problems, a Max who has perfectly internalized the steel silence and vulnerability of Randolph Scott and Cary Cooper, more sand storms than Lawrence of Arabia, Four pregnant Priscillas in desert distress, a posse of old dykes on bikes to the rescue,  almost dialogue free(!)  a soundscape that pays homage to a live performance of a Metallica-like art composition.. ..... and under all the noise, visual stimulation and nerve wracking battle scenes is a critique on oil dependency, privatization of water and a woman's right to control her body.  I kid you not!   Remember Babe? the lovable pig movie?  same director George Miller.  Go .... better yet sneak in!"

Finally someone is asking questions about The Imitation Game......

I have know of Alan Turning and his history since the late '60.This horrible story of the damaging of a brilliant brain who was instrumental in ending WWII because of his self admitted homosexuality and this history of having to closet it himself in order to work was pone one of the motivation that made me become an activist despite knowing how in my on life it would damage my career goals.  When I saw the film I while happy (yes) that at lat at last more of the public would know of this gay hero and what happened to him because he was a homosexual, I did have an uncomfortable feeling in the bottom of my stomach when I left the theater. Not with the performance of the Benedict Cumberbatch but with hoe his character was written and directed, I did wonder if Turning based on the portrayal was in fact a highly functioning person with aspinger syndrome, a form of autism, or simply  a victim of having to closet himself in his daily life. When I attempted to broach this subject with friends gay or straight I was met with unwelcome ears,. So recently reading this piece in the Guardian by the always insightful and au condraie Alex Von Tunzelma made me realize I was not alone in my questions not of this portrait of Alan Turning.

THINKING OF PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN AND ADDICTION

Addiction is a snake ever ready to pounce. PSH was my neighbor and a sobriety friend, He for years regularly attend Perry Street , a 12 step meeting house. But he slipped away when life became too busy ...or what ever. He did check into rehab over the summer, While there are backstory scenarios to try to explain what happened, the lesson to be learned from this tragic overdose is what they say in 12 step programs: First things first. Unless you put your addiction and recovery first you will be vulnerable to slipping back into addiction. I don't think he wanted to die ..he just wanted to get high, But death is always at the door knocking and waiting for the junkie. Sad for his family sad for all of us who appreciated his acting and directing talent. Blessed be sweet Phillip .please go gently into the night. And to all my friends in recovery ..stay close please! You have my number

Look What Anthony Mackie is up to : AfroPoP: The Ultimate Cultural Exchange's War Don Don” (“The War Is Over)

Our friend Cheryl Duncan tipped on  series that one of our favorite actors,Anthony Mackie,  is hosting. It is on  the World Channel  (first time  I heard of it thought it has been around ..and when I went to their online site worldchannel.org ... I was shocked at how many, many interesting videos are there!)  Here is a little background on one upcoming “War Don Don” (“The War Is Over”),directed by Rebecca Richman Cohen and a bit of news about what Mr. Mackie is up to professionally "

Years after the 10-year conflict in Sierra Leone ended in 2002, senior rebel leader Issa Sesay was put on trial for his role in the incident. Emmy-nominated filmmaker Rebecca Richman Cohen was there capturing the views of prosecution and defense alike, including Sesay himself. Her award-winning documentary on the court proceedings, “War Don Don” (“The War Is Over”), premieres on the WORLD Channel, Monday, January 27, at 8 pm ET/10 pm PT—the third episode of “AfroPoP: The Ultimate Cultural Exchange.” The sixth season of the public television series on contemporary life throughout the African Diaspora is hosted by acclaimed actor Anthony Mackie  (“8 Mile,” “The Hurt Locker” and “Pain & Gain.”) Additional episodes of the series, which is produced by National Black Programming Consortium (NBPC) and co-presented by American Public Television (APT), premiere weekly on the WORLD Channel through February 10; in February 2014, the program will be distributed to additional public television stations nationwide by American Public Television (APT).
Was Sesay a war criminal or a peacemaker? This is the question that Cohen’s film addresses in examining the U.N. Special Court trial of Sesay. Prosecutors say Sesay committed horrific atrocities, but his supporters claim he brought peace to the country. “War Don Don” is a film that ultimately puts international justice itself on trial. The film was nominated for two Emmys and won prizes at the South by Southwest Film Festival (Special Jury Award), Independent Film Festival Boston (Karen Schmeer Award for Excellence in Documentary Editing) and Human Rights Watch Film Festival New York (Cinereach Award), among others.

The Juilliard School’s Drama Division graduate was first discovered playing the role of Tupac Shakur in the off-Broadway production “Up Against the Wind.” Shortly thereafter, he made an auspicious film debut as Eminem’s nemesis, Papa Doc, in Curtis Hanson’s “8 Mile.” His performance caught the attention of Spike Lee, who cast Mackie in the 2004 Toronto Film Festival’s Masters program selection “Sucker Free City” and “She Hate Me.” He also appeared in Clint Eastwood’s Academy Award-winning “Million Dollar Baby,” opposite Hilary Swank, Morgan Freeman and Eastwood. Additional film roles include “We Are Marshall”; “Half Nelson,” with Ryan Gosling; “Night Catches Us,” opposite Kerry Washington; “The Adjustment Bureau,” which also featured Matt Damon and Emily Blunt; “Real Steel,” with Hugh Jackman; “Gangster Squad,” where he shared the screen with Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Emma Stone, and Ryan Gosling; “Pain & Gain,” with co-stars Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson; and “Runner, Runner,” alongside Ben Affleck, Justin Timberlake and Gemma Arterton. Mackie earned IFP Spirit Award nominations for his performances in Rodney Evans’s “Brother to Brother” and Kathryn Bigelow’s “The Hurt Locker.”

REEL DEAL: Movies that matter REVIEW: LOVELACE

LOVELACE  dirs. Rob Epstein and Jeffery Friedman.

The birth control pill freed women from the tyranny of their body and gave them choice over sexual pleasure. It also made for a world that fundamentally changed the mating game. The rules had been that good girls do not fellate or god forbid put out until they were married. This drove men crazy. The pill changed everything. Women were free to use their bodies for pleasure and men took full advantage of this new freedom, resulting in many cases where women had even less right to say no than they did under the old rules.  In the early ‘70s, despite women’s liberation,  a porn based aesthetical representation of women and their bodies emerged.

It is against this background that Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman tell the story of the first above ground porn star, Linda Lovelace and her worldwide fame as the woman who could. Epstein and Friedman's background as Academy Award wining documentary filmmakers and their learning adventure into narrative film making (HOWL, the story of Allan Ginsberg infamous censorship battle) mesh into a triumph of historical and critical pop culture storytelling ,

LOVELACE world premiered at the 2013 SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL.

Threading through a seedy, steamy story of the dark side of the porn industry with an appropriate soundtrack that embraced porn and glamorizes the exploitation of women against the Nixon years of puritanical outrage and a sanctimonious push for censorship, LOVELACE dramatically exposes the modification of moral values and the implicit commmodification of sexual freedom for profit.

Linda Lovelace is a would-be actress who falls in love with the wrong kind of men and will do anything to please them. For $200 to pay the rent, she stars in a porn movie for a mafia-related porn director and graphically performs oral sex that will forever change what men will expect from women regardless of what a woman wants or needs.

Against a cheesy Technicolor landscape of Miami and San Fernando Valley’s tacky glamour and an appropriately almost but not too overheated script by Andy Bellin, we meet a cast up to the demands of representing a world not as glamorous as the people in it think. Amanda Seyfried is perfectly cast because of her voluptuous body and over ripe lips.

One performance steals the film and should win her an Academy Award nomination. Unrecognizable as Linda Lovelace’s ultra conservative Florida mother is Sharon Stone.

Hers is the real indelible performance in the film. Both the art direction and costumes are point perfect.

LOVELACE is a timely meditation on sexual freedom and the commodification of the body.  Epstein and Friedman have their fingers on the pulse of America.
